We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong background in sensor and instrumentation electronics design. Specifically, we need someone who has designed sensor or measurement products from first principles, working with technologies such as guided wave radar, capacitive sensing, ultrasonic measurement, pressure transducers, flow measurement or similar instrumentation disciplines.
This role is recruiting on behalf of a globally operating manufacturer of precision fluid level sensing systems, part of a large multinational group with manufacturing facilities across the UK, USA, Europe and Asia. Their products are deployed in some of the world's most demanding heavy vehicle and off-road environments, supplying major OEMs across construction, agriculture, heavy truck, mining and industrial markets. This is a newly created senior role at their UK site near Coventry.
You will be the technical authority for sensor product design, owning development end to end from sensing physics and electronics architecture through to production launch, while leading a small team of development engineers. A relocation package is available for the right candidate.
Important Please Read Before Applying
This role is specifically for engineers who have designed the sensor or measurement product itself from first principles. We are not looking for systems integration engineers, and experience in battery management systems, EV powertrains, traction inverters, PLC automation or traffic control systems will not be relevant here. If your career has been built around designing sensing or instrumentation products at the analogue and signal chain level, this role is for you.
The Role
- Architect and lead development of next-generation liquid level sensing systems for heavy vehicle and off-road environments
- Own end-to-end sensor product design from sensing physics and electronics architecture, signal conditioning and embedded signal processing through to validation and production launch
- Act as the technical authority for advanced sensing technologies across the business
- Lead and develop a small team of development engineers
- Deliver robust, high-performance designs for extreme environments including wide temperature ranges, high vibration, mechanical shock, EMI/EMC noise and chemical contamination
- Drive product development execution ensuring engineering rigour across architecture, design, prototyping, validation and production readiness
- Operate within automotive-grade development processes including APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, DV/PV validation and IATF 16949
What We Are Looking For
- Proven track record of designing commercial sensor or instrumentation products from concept through to production this is the single most important requirement
- Deep expertise in analogue and mixed signal circuit design
- Experience with sensing technologies such as guided wave radar, capacitive sensing, ultrasonic measurement or industrial/automotive instrumentation
- Demonstrated ability to design electronics for harsh operating environments including wide temperature ranges, high vibration and industrial exposure
- Familiarity with automotive-grade quality processes including APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA and IATF 16949
- Hands-on prototyping skills including PCB assembly and troubleshooting
- Experience in heavy vehicle, construction, agricultural or off-highway equipment markets is highly desirable
- Embedded firmware development in C/C++ and automotive communication protocols including CAN and LIN
- EMI/EMC robust design and compliance
- Degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience
What Is On Offer
- £75,000 to £80,000 per annum
- Relocation package available for the right candidate
- 25 days holiday annually
- Company pension scheme
- Life assurance
- A genuine technical leadership role with global product impact across construction, agriculture, mining and commercial vehicle markets
