The Opportunity
We are working with a well established national contractor delivering construction and refurbishment projects across the UK. This is a key technical leadership role within the business, offering full ownership of HVAC projects from initial scoping and design through to installation, commissioning and handover. You will play a critical role in ensuring systems are technically sound, energy efficient and commercially viable, while leading delivery across multiple projects. This role is ideal for someone who has come from a hands on HVAC background and is looking to step into a position where they can influence design, lead teams and take ownership of project outcomes.
What You Will Be Doing
- Technical Leadership and Design
- Lead site surveys, project scoping and client requirement capture
- Carry out and validate heating and cooling load calculations
- Define system strategies including VRF, heat pumps, AHU and ventilation systems
- Select equipment based on performance, efficiency and long term value
- Identify risks early and ensure designs are fit for purpose
- Technical Governance and Compliance
- Act as the technical authority across HVAC projects
- Review and approve designs, drawings and specifications
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
- Oversee testing and commissioning to ensure systems meet performance expectations
- Resolve complex technical challenges across design and delivery
- Commercial and Contract Ownership
- Manage projects from award through to completion
- Control budgets, variations and final accounts
- Support value engineering and scope development
- Ensure all project documentation and deliverables are completed correctly
- Installation and Delivery
- Oversee installation planning and sequencing
- Manage site teams, subcontractors and supervisors
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained
- Monitor programme and delivery performance
- Leadership and Stakeholder Management
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, consultants and suppliers
- Support and mentor internal teams
- Work closely with procurement and supply chain partners
- Lead technical reviews and project meetings
What We Are Looking For
- Essential
- Strong HVAC background with a mechanical bias
- Previous hands on experience in the field
- Experience with design, quoting and technical scoping
- Strong understanding of compliance and risk management
- Proven ability to manage projects and lead teams
- Full UK driving licence
- Desirable
- HNC HND or Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
- Experience delivering projects within retail or commercial environments
- Manufacturer training across systems such as VRF or heat pumps
- Health and safety qualifications such as SMSTS or IOSH
The Environment
- Office base in Leeds
- Hybrid working with typically 2 to 3 days on site
- Travel required across the UK depending on project workload
- Flexibility required with occasional overnight stays
