SEMH Teaching Assistants - Stockport & Surrounding Areas

Long-term and Short-term Roles Available

Aspire People are working with a number of mainstream secondary schools, as well as specialist settings including SEMH Schools, Alternative Provisions, Pupil Referral Units, and SEN Schools, across Stockport and the surrounding areas. We are seeking Psychology Graduates or graduates with experience working with children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to join our growing team of SEMH Teaching Assistants.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide both academic and emotional support to students, working 1:1 or in small groups to help them engage with learning and develop positive behaviours. You'll play a vital role in building trusting and professional relationships with students and helping them to reach their full potential. A calm, patient, and resilient approach is key, as you'll be supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour or struggle with emotional regulation.

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Hold a UK bachelor's degree (ideally in Psychology or a related field)
  • Have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH or additional needs
  • Be confident managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
  • Be able to build positive and supportive relationships with students and staff
  • Have excellent communication and empathy skills
  • Provide references covering the last two years
  • Hold a current DBS certificate on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for a new one
