An SEN school is looking for a caring, committed, and proactive Child Care Assistant to support our wonderful students on a long-term, full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an Outstanding-rated special school that delivers personalised education and care to children and young people aged 4 to 16 with a wide range of complex needs.

The Role - Child Care Assistant

As a Child Care Assistant, you will play an essential part in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff, you will help deliver individualised learning plans and provide the consistent, compassionate support our pupils need to succeed. Your daily duties as a Child Care Assistant will include:

  • Supporting pupils with communication needs through visual aids, PECS, Makaton or AAC
  • Helping to manage behaviour through positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies
  • Assisting with feeding and physical movement (manual handling training is provided)
  • Supporting students in therapy sessions, life skills activities, and outdoor learning

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children with complex SEN, medical, or physical care needs (or is willing to learn)
  • Is confident, calm under pressure, and emotionally resilient
  • Is team-focused and able to build strong, trusting relationships with both staff and students
  • Understands the importance of routine, structure, and clear communication in an SEN setting
