About the Role

Peterborough City Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Family Safeguarding Team, working with children and families across long-term safeguarding pathways. This is a busy and engaging safeguarding role, managing cases from initial intervention through to court proceedings and final hearing. You will work with children and families under:

  • Section 17
  • Section 47
  • Public Law Outline and Care Proceedings

The role focuses on assessment and intervention, ensuring children are safeguarded while supporting families to create sustainable change.

Hybrid: Minimum 2 days in the office (plus visits as required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a long-term safeguarding caseload across CIN and CP frameworks
  • Work on cases progressing through PLO and care proceedings to final hearing
  • Undertake high-quality assessments and interventions to promote welfare and address risk
  • Build strong relationships with children and families, ensuring their views inform planning
  • Produce clear, analytical reports and records to support decision-making and court processes
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to deliver coordinated safeguarding plans
  • Manage workload independently while maintaining high professional standards and timely outcomes

Experience/Skills

  • Have experience within long-term safeguarding teams
  • Are confident managing CIN, CP and court-related cases
  • Have strong assessment, intervention and analytical skills
  • Can manage risk and complexity effectively
  • Have excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Work well within multi-agency environments
  • Hold a recognised Social Work qualification and are registered with Social Work England
