Carmichael UK has a fantastic opportunity for Site Engineers with strong setting-out experience to join a long-term civil engineering project in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established delivery team on a variety of civil engineering works, playing a key role in the accurate and safe delivery of site activities. The role covers both self-delivered and subcontracted works.

As a Site Engineer, you will be responsible for day-to-day engineering activities on site, with a strong emphasis on setting out and dimensional control. You will support and mentor junior engineers where required and provide technical input across multiple areas of delivery.

You will contribute to:

  • RAMS
  • Temporary Work briefs
  • ITPs
  • Weekly progress and planning updates
  • NCRs, TQs, and Early Warnings

Key Accountabilities

  • SHE performance at site level, supporting the Line Manager
  • Quality performance, ensuring standards of workmanship and documentation are met
  • Accuracy of engineering controls and dimensional compliance
  • Supporting the effective performance of the site engineering team

Dimensional Control & Setting Out

  • Ensure timely and accurate dimensional control of works
  • Provide and check setting-out for both direct delivery and subcontracted works
  • Establish clear and accurate setting-out on site
  • Communicate setting-out information clearly to subcontractors and operatives
  • Set out works in advance to allow time for independent and secondary checks
  • Maintain long-term control points and project stations
  • Ensure all survey instruments are correctly calibrated and tested

Quality

  • Produce and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for your section of works
  • Ensure quality inspections are carried out and records maintained
  • Raise and manage RFIs and Technical Queries (TQs)
  • Contribute to the production of as-built documentation
  • Maintain accurate site records including diaries, photographs, and marked-up drawings
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System
  • Maintain quality records and support close-out of NCRs
  • Support delivery of project quality objectives within the Site Management Plan (SMP)

Programme & Planning

  • Develop and manage short- to medium-term programmes for your section of works
  • Maintain accurate progress records
  • Monitor and manage subcontractor progress
  • Ensure short-term construction programmes are understood and followed
  • Brief engineers and site teams on upcoming works to ensure timely setting-out
  • Attend collaborative planning sessions as required

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years experience working on civil engineering projects
  • Strong setting-out and dimensional control experience
  • Working towards Professional / Chartered certification
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • UK National, eligible for security clearance
