Are you an experienced operative looking to build your career in a fast-paced, heavy engineering environment? We’re recruiting a Forge (Press) Operative to join a dynamic production team, working with high‑capacity forging equipment and supporting critical manufacturing processes.

- Location: Sheffield, S9
- Shifts: Days/Afters & Nights Rotating across all 3 shifts
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Contract: Permanent
The Role
As a Forge (Press) Operative, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining machinery used to shape and form metal components to precise specifications. This is a hands‑on role requiring attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate large‑scale presses including 5600T, 1500T, and 600T machines
- Support production processes such as:
- Andromat operation
- Furnace and forge control room management
- Pyrometry checks
- Trim, punch, and knockdown operations
- Carry out visual and dimensional inspections to ensure quality standards are met
- Perform pre‑shift checks (FLT, cranes, hoists, etc.)
- Assist with tooling and die building
- Maintain housekeeping standards (5S)
- Complete preventative maintenance checks
- Ensure strict adherence to health & safety and quality procedures
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a forging or pressing environment (desirable)
- Background in a medium to heavy manufacturing setting
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment
- Flexible approach to shift work and varied responsibilities
- Basic knowledge of computer‑controlled systems
- Ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring equipment (training available)
- Strong communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently
- FLT/Crane/Hoist experience
