Are you an experienced operative looking to build your career in a fast-paced, heavy engineering environment? We’re recruiting a Forge (Press) Operative to join a dynamic production team, working with high‑capacity forging equipment and supporting critical manufacturing processes.

Benefits

  • Salary: 14.50 to 17.70 per hour DOE plus 17% shift allowance
  • Location: Sheffield, S9
  • Shifts: Days/Afters & Nights Rotating across all 3 shifts
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Contract: Permanent

The Role

As a Forge (Press) Operative, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining machinery used to shape and form metal components to precise specifications. This is a hands‑on role requiring attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate large‑scale presses including 5600T, 1500T, and 600T machines
  • Support production processes such as:
    • Andromat operation
    • Furnace and forge control room management
    • Pyrometry checks
    • Trim, punch, and knockdown operations
  • Carry out visual and dimensional inspections to ensure quality standards are met
  • Perform pre‑shift checks (FLT, cranes, hoists, etc.)
  • Assist with tooling and die building
  • Maintain housekeeping standards (5S)
  • Complete preventative maintenance checks
  • Ensure strict adherence to health & safety and quality procedures

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a forging or pressing environment (desirable)
  • Background in a medium to heavy manufacturing setting
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment
  • Flexible approach to shift work and varied responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of computer‑controlled systems
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring equipment (training available)
  • Strong communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently
  • FLT/Crane/Hoist experience
