Independent Forgings and Alloys, one of Europe's leading precision forging companies, is expanding and now looking to recruit a Heat Treatment Operative to join its Sheffield-based team. As the Heat Treatment Operative, you will be based at the Sheffield manufacturing site within the Heat Treatment Department, supporting the safe and efficient processing of aerospace and engineering components through a range of heat treatment operations. Working closely with the Heat Treatment Team Leader and wider production teams, you will ensure all work is completed to strict quality and safety standards within an AS9100 and Nadcap accredited environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate within company Health & Safety procedures and maintain high housekeeping standards within the Heat Treatment Department.
- Work within accredited quality systems to ensure products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Ensure furnaces used for production are fit for purpose and released in accordance with quality requirements.
- Review route cards and charge sheets to prepare work for heat treatment processing.
- Build, load, and unload charges while maintaining full material traceability throughout the process.
- Operate rail-bound charging machines and cooling/quenching systems safely and effectively.
- Carry out basic furnace operations including temperature setting, heating, cooling, and monitoring furnace charts during heat treatment cycles.
- Monitor and record key process information using documentation and computer systems.
- Conduct hardness testing, including surface preparation and reporting of results.
- Assist with hot material transfers from the forge and oversee post-forge heat treatment activities.
- Prepare heat treatment orders for despatch and maintain accurate stock/location records.
- Monitor forge furnaces overnight and follow production furnace programmes.
- Liaise with Forge and Heat Treatment personnel regarding daily production plans and shift requirements.
- Support Heat Treatment Leaders with shift handovers and day-to-day departmental responsibilities.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or hot working environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures.
- Strong team-working and communication skills.
- Flexible approach to working rotating shifts and overtime when required.
- Overhead Crane Licence or FLT Counterbalance Licence.
- Experience working within manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes.
- Basic understanding of metallurgy and metals.
- Experience in Brinell hardness testing.
- Experience operating 3-point bend straighteners.
- Basic forge manipulator operation experience.
