Are you an experienced Children’s Social Worker looking for a supportive frontline role where you can focus on meaningful intervention and long‑term family support, without the demands of Child Protection? We are currently working with Islington Council to recruit an experienced Senior Social Worker into their Children in Need Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable and well‑regarded service focused on delivering high‑quality interventions to children and families requiring support under Section 17. Importantly, this team is separate from Child Protection, allowing Social Workers to focus on relationship‑based practice, early intervention, and improving long‑term outcomes for families without holding CP conference or CP investigation responsibilities.
The Role
- Manage a caseload of children and families supported under Section 17
- Complete child & family assessments and develop outcome‑focused CIN plans
- Undertake direct work with children and families to promote positive change
- Build strong relationships with families through strengths‑based interventions
- Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, housing, and partner agencies
- Support children at risk of escalation and prevent progression into child protection where safe to do so
- Prepare clear and analytical assessments, reports, and case recordings
- Support less experienced colleagues through mentoring and shared practice learning
- Participate in CIN reviews and multi‑agency planning meetings
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England
- Previous experience within Children in Need, assessment, or safeguarding teams
- Strong assessment, planning, and direct work skills
- Confident working within statutory children’s services
- Ability to manage complex family situations and multi‑agency working effectively
- Minimum 3 years post‑qualified experience preferred
