Are you an experienced container transport professional looking to take the next step in your career? We are working with a well-established container haulage operator based near London Gateway that is seeking a hands-on Senior Container Planner to join their growing operation. This position is ideally suited to an experienced planner who enjoys being heavily involved in the day-to-day operation, while also having the capability and ambition to step into a Depot Manager position in the near future.
You will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the transport operation, mentoring junior planners, improving efficiencies, and helping drive commercial performance across the business.
The Role
As Senior Container Planner, you will take responsibility for coordinating a busy container transport operation, ensuring deliveries and collections are planned efficiently while maintaining excellent customer service levels. You will work closely with drivers, customers, and senior management, acting as a key point of support within the operation. This is a role with genuine progression potential into depot leadership as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily container transport movements efficiently
- Liaise closely with drivers, customers, and ports to ensure smooth operations
- Support and mentor junior planners within the team
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations, driver hours, and operational procedures
- Monitor operational performance and identify areas for improvement
- Handle operational issues including delays, breakdowns, and driver queries
- Support the wider management team with operational and commercial decision-making
Requirements
- Proven experience within container haulage or general haulage planning
- Strong knowledge of UK transport regulations and compliance
- Previous experience in a senior planning or supervisory capacity would be advantageous
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to perform well within a fast-paced transport environment
- Ambition and capability to progress into a Depot Manager role over time
