We're looking for a SEND Travel Broker for a local government client in Enfield, Greater London. To play a key role in coordinating and managing travel arrangements for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The role ensures that transport solutions are safe, appropriate, and tailored to individual needs, while also supporting families and educational settings in navigating available travel options.
Core responsibilities include:
- Assessing travel requirements.
- Liaising with transport providers.
- Completing and reviewing risk assessments.
- Resolving issues that arise during travel.
- Ensuring compliance with statutory duties under SEND transport guidance.
- Maintaining a reliable, responsive service that safeguards young people and supports their access to education.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitating the setting up of Travel Assistance for children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
- Liaising with internal and external professionals to ensure all parties are kept informed of relevant information.
- Delivering an effective, efficient, and customer-focused service in line with Travel Assistance Policy, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code of Practice and its links to related statutory provisions.
- Providing high-quality and comprehensive home visits and carrying out administrative customer-focused support to a team or service, in relation to any of the functions undertaken.
- Delivering a flexible, positive and responsive service that meets customer demands, which may include working extended or flexible hours and working off-site.
- Keeping up to date with developments and practices in the service.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
- Experience of working in a health, educational or social care setting with adults or children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and an awareness of and commitment to promoting independence and inclusion.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, and to use IT.
- Ability to work with customers to ensure their needs are being met.
- Ability to work in partnership with children with SEND, young people with SEND and families, and liaise with other staff agencies to ensure that the needs of customers are met.
- Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team while managing workload efficiently, prioritising work and adopting a flexible approach to changing and competing demands.
- Knowledge and Understanding of Travel Assistance and the Special Education Needs and Disabilities Code of Practice, and its links to related statutory provisions.
- Experience in conducting home visits.
- Ability to write accurate, detailed assessments and reports promptly.
- Ability to operate Care First & Synergy.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Basic knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidance relating to the role, e.g. The Children's Act 2004 and Children and Families Act 2014.
- Knowledge of resources to support the role.
Qualification Essential:
- GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
- NVQ Level Social Care qualification or equivalent level of experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Social Media and CRM.
Essential Compliance Requirements:
- 5 years' reference, including current employment.
- Enhanced DBS & barred list check (Child & adult).
- Willing to engage in the mandatory pre-screening application process.
