Vacancy Overview

Be the subject matter expert on site for SHE, closely supported by the extensive network of experienced SHE professionals in the business and reporting to the inspirational cluster manager who will be there for guidance. Seeking a professional who is a hands-on leader, willing to get stuck in from the outset, while also providing strategic support as an important member of the senior leadership team.

  • Conduct a site-based gap analysis by observing work as it is actually carried out, then prioritise and address the findings.
  • Improve site compliance, drive best practice, raise SHE standards, and focus on resetting and refocusing culture and behaviours.
  • Ensure the workforce take accountability, look out for each other and own safety.
  • Calmly support and offer reassurance across the site with perhaps initial handholding if needed following a major merger.
  • Support SHE needs across the business; the site has had significant investment resulting in exciting projects and initiatives that need to be rolled out.
  • This is a permitted site, with risks including hot working areas, effluent, ammonia, gas ovens, CIP, machinery safety, slips, trips and falls, DSEAR, workplace transport, manual handling and MHE.
  • Assist with the management of all stakeholder relationships (EA, HSE, Customers, Local community) to ensure that there are no compliance issues.
  • Support the recording and successful management of all emergency evacuation exercises, ensuring procedures are followed and practiced, adhering to agreed group and insurance standards.
  • Support to shape the current safety culture and behaviours from a dependent to independent state, where the level of ownership is re-set and refocused to site level.
  • The senior leadership team are open to raising the bar but need guidance and support when it comes to integrating SHE, requiring a patient approach to educate and promote confidence across Safety, Health and Environment.
Ideal background and qualifications
  • Prior HSE experience within an engineering, production, manufacturing, logistics and warehouse background but ideally FMCG like bakery, brewery, beverages, food, tobacco, paper and packaging.
  • Actively excluding public sector, oil and gas, retail and construction.
  • Experience with environmental duties especially permits.
  • NEBOSH Certificate is essential.
  • Experience or capability to lead a site themselves.
