The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a passionate and experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to join their team in Medway. The Functional Skills English Tutor role involves delivering Entry Level 1 - 3 and Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills English to small groups (up to 12 learners). This is not a mainstream teaching role. You will be working with learners who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Down syndrome, and other complex learning needs. Success in this role requires patience, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to supporting learners who may require additional help with communication, engagement, and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Functional Skills English lessons
  • Develop schemes of work aligned to curriculum standards
  • Assess learner ability through diagnostics and ongoing evaluation
  • Support learners' progress with tailored teaching strategies
  • Prepare learners for exams and track their development
  • Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance team to meet KPIs
  • Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusive learning environments
  • Participate in CPD and standardisation activities

What Our Client Is Looking For

Essential

  • Teaching qualification (AET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
  • English qualification (GCSE Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2)
  • Assessor qualification
  • Experience teaching learners with varying abilities and additional needs
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND

Desirable

  • SEN qualification
  • Knowledge of EHCPs
