Reading

£28,000 – £31,000 + £2,700 Call‑Out Rota + Overtime + £600 Skill Uplifts

The Role

  • Road, pathway and paving repairs
  • Brickwork, blockwork and small concrete repairs
  • Drainage repairs, unblocking and minor excavation work
  • Roofing, guttering, lead flashing and chimney repairs
  • Door repairs, ironmongery, shelving, signage and general carpentry
  • Basic plumbing repairs to sanitary ware, toilets, sinks and pipework
  • Installing wooden or concrete ramps and handrails
  • General building fabric repairs across occupied campus buildings
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
  • Logging work, risk assessments and updates via CAFM system

Hours, Overtime & Call‑Out

  • 36 hours per week, Monday‑Friday
  • Paid overtime available
  • Call‑out rota approx. 1 weekend in every 4‑5
  • £2,700 annual call‑out rota payment
  • Standby: £38.20 weekday / £70.20 weekend or bank holiday
  • Attendance: approx. £15 per hour (minimum 2 hours per call‑out)

Salary Enhancements

  • £600 per year uplifts available for additional skills: lead roofing / flashing, Sarnafil roofing systems, plaster patching / making good

Qualifications

  • General Builder, Multi‑Trade Operative or Building Fabric Technician
  • Strong background in brickwork, drainage, roofing or external works
  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or time‑served equivalent
  • Able to work independently and manage varied repair work
  • Professional, reliable and customer‑facing
  • Full UK driving licence
