Overview
ISQ Recruitment are looking for a skilled HGV Diagnostic Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop in the Reading area. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician with strong diagnostic capabilities who enjoys tackling complex faults, working with multiple vehicle brands, and developing their technical expertise further through structured ongoing training. You'll be responsible for diagnostic appointments, repairs identified during investigations, and routine inspections and servicing when required. The role suits someone who is adaptable, solutions focused, and confident working across a variety of commercial vehicle marques.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting advanced diagnostics, fault finding and electrical/mechanical system testing.
- Completing repairs identified through diagnostic work and routine inspections.
- Carrying out general maintenance, servicing and safety checks on HGVs.
- Using manufacturer approved diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Ensuring documentation, job cards and reports are completed accurately.
- Adhering to workshop processes, safety guidelines and manufacturer standards.
- Working flexibly across different vehicle types and supporting colleagues within the team.
Hours & Shift Pattern
- Split Shift Rotation (alternating weekly)
- Week 1: Monday-Friday 06:00 to 15:00 (1 hour unpaid break)
- Week 2: Monday-Friday 13:00 to 22:00 (1 hour unpaid break)
Overtime
- Weekday and weekend overtime paid at 1.5x
- OTE is based on approx. 5 hours overtime per week + 1 in 3 Saturdays
- Additional overtime usually available
Salary & Bonus Structure
- Basic Salary: Up to £45,000 DOE
- Productivity Bonus: Up to £6,000 per year (paid quarterly)
- Shift Allowances: Paid on late shift weeks
- Realistic OTE: £64,000+ (uncapped)
Candidate Profile
- Essential HGV Diagnostic Technician accreditation (manufacturer or equivalent).
- Strong diagnostic, electrical and mechanical fault finding skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle complex technical tasks.
- Organised, methodical and committed to high quality workmanship.
- Flexible and willing to take on varied tasks within the workshop.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Solid understanding of workshop health & safety procedures.
- Level 3 HGV qualification (NVQ / City & Guilds / IMI).
- 5+ years commercial vehicle experience (time served considered).
