Leading Residential Developer seeks to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor on a freelance basis for a long‑term contract.

Freelance Quantity Surveyor – Residential / Edinburgh Based – Large National Residential Developer. Competitive day rate, long‑term programme of works.

Hays Construction is working in partnership with a well‑established national residential developer to appoint a Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a programme of works across existing apartment developments throughout Scotland and wider UK locations. Due to continued investment in their residential portfolio, our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to work closely with an existing Managing Quantity Surveyor, providing commercial and project support across multiple live sites.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Managing Quantity Surveyor with day‑to‑day commercial duties
  • Assist with cost control, forecasting and reporting across multiple projects
  • Prepare and review variations and final accounts
  • Support procurement of subcontractors and consultants
  • Assist with valuations and payment processes
  • Provide support on programme, progress tracking and basic PM‑related duties where required

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the residential or housing sector
  • Comfortable working on existing buildings, refurbishment or remediation works
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Confident supporting multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work collaboratively with site, PM and commercial teams
  • Adaptability and comfort operating in a freelance environment
