The role & about the client: Our client is a well-established main contractor based in Portsmouth, delivering projects across the commercial, education, healthcare, residential and public sector markets throughout the South Coast region. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior QS who has strong experience administering both JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts and is comfortable managing projects from pre-construction through to final account.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the business, working closely with operational teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered successfully and profitably.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the commercial aspects of multiple construction projects
  • Administering JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts
  • Preparing valuations, variations, CVRs and final accounts
  • Subcontract procurement and account management
  • Cost reporting and forecasting
  • Managing project cash flow and commercial risk
  • Liaising closely with clients, consultants and site teams
  • Supporting and mentoring junior commercial staff where required
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within budget and maximise profitability

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment
  • Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts
  • Experience delivering projects across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education or residential
  • Excellent commercial and contractual awareness
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence
