The role & about the client: Our client is a well-established main contractor based in Portsmouth, delivering projects across the commercial, education, healthcare, residential and public sector markets throughout the South Coast region. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior QS who has strong experience administering both JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts and is comfortable managing projects from pre-construction through to final account. The successful candidate will play a key role within the business, working closely with operational teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered successfully and profitably.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing the commercial aspects of multiple construction projects
- Administering JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts
- Preparing valuations, variations, CVRs and final accounts
- Subcontract procurement and account management
- Cost reporting and forecasting
- Managing project cash flow and commercial risk
- Liaising closely with clients, consultants and site teams
- Supporting and mentoring junior commercial staff where required
- Ensuring projects are delivered within budget and maximise profitability
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment
- Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts
- Experience delivering projects across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education or residential
- Excellent commercial and contractual awareness
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence
