The role & about the client:
Our client is a well-established main contractor based in Portsmouth, delivering projects across the commercial, education, healthcare, residential and public sector sectors across the South Coast. Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, they are looking to recruit an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their commercial team. This opportunity would suit a driven Quantity Surveyor with a minimum of 4 years' post‑graduate experience who is looking to progress their career within a supportive and growing contractor environment.
The role will involve working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers across a variety of live projects from pre‑construction through to final account. Candidates with experience working under JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts will be highly desirable.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the commercial management of construction projects
- Preparing valuations, cost reports and final accounts
- Supporting subcontract procurement and subcontract account management
- Managing variations and assisting with CVRs
- Monitoring project costs and reporting on commercial performance
- Liaising with site teams, subcontractors and clients
- Assisting with contract administration under JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 forms of contract
- Supporting the wider commercial team to ensure projects are delivered profitably
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 4 years' experience post‑graduation within a Quantity Surveying role
- Experience working for a main contractor or specialist contractor
- Good understanding of JCT and/or NEC3/NEC4 contracts
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Relevant construction qualification (Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence
