A qualified electrician is required at HMP Stocken to support a busy maintenance team. We are recruiting an experienced Electrician to work at HMP Stocken on a temporary basis for several months. This is a long‑term temporary contract offering sociable, full‑time hours and overtime. There is the possibility for a permanent role for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a range of structured SFG20‑based PPM tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual), incorporating fault‑finding and reactive work to maintain statutory and mandatory compliance.
  • Complete service sheets and paperwork for PPM and reactive electrical tasks with work details, findings and electrical test results as required.
  • Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other minor electrical work, ensuring inspections and tests are carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
  • Assist the responsible and authorised person when requested, ensuring all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively, thereby creating a secure environment for staff and residents.
  • Diagnose and replace failed electrical components, actively fault‑finding/problem‑solving on electrical systems across the prison.
  • Assist with escorting duties and other duties as required.
  • Follow MOJ Security protocols, including tool management.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition considered).
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
  • Experience of planned and preventive maintenance operations.
  • Experience working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems.

Working Conditions & Benefits

  • Pay Frequency: Weekly
  • Working Days: Monday to Friday (overtime cover at weekends available)
  • Working Hours: 39 hours per week
  • You must pass MOJ Prison Clearance (up to 8 weeks). A passport or photo driving licence is required for clearance.
