Search Consultancy is currently recruiting for an experienced Plater to join a well-established fabrication facility in Newcastle. This is a long-term position offering excellent stability, with a direct path from temporary to permanent employment for the right candidate.

We are looking for a skilled tradesperson capable of interpreting technical drawings, prepping materials, and fabricating assemblies safely and efficiently to exact specifications.

Shift Patterns & Earning Potential

  • Option 1: Night Shift
    Schedule: 4 Nights per week (12-hour shifts)
    Benefit: Includes a premium shift uplift rate for unsociable hours.
  • Option 2: Day Shift
    Schedule: 5 Days per week (Standard 42-hour working week)

Key Responsibilities

  • Plating & Fabrication: Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and weld symbols to mark out, cut, and shape steel sections and plates.
  • Assembly & Tack Welding: Setting out, positioning, and aligning components accurately using clamps and fixtures, before securing them with tack welds ahead of final production.
  • Material Preparation: Operating fabrication machinery safely, including ironworkers, rollers, drills, guillotines, and oxy-propane cutting equipment to prep steel parts.
  • Precision Measurement: Checking dimensions, squareness, and alignments against strict engineering tolerances using standard measuring instruments.
  • Defect Rectification: Identifying discrepancies in materials or drawings and carrying out necessary modifications or repairs to ensure parts fit perfectly.
  • Safety & Maintenance: Adhering strictly to workshop safety regulations, maintaining a tidy workstation, and looking after plant equipment and tooling.

Requirements

  • Site Cards: A valid ACE (Assuring Competence in Engineering) Card or a CSCS Card (Blue Skilled Worker or Gold Advanced Craft) is required.
  • Qualifications: Must hold the relevant NVQ or City & Guilds qualifications in fabrication/engineering to support your card.
  • Experience: Proven track record working as a Plater/Fabricator within a busy workshop or manufacturing environment (structural steel experience not essential).
  • Tools & PPE: Your own standard hand tools, measuring equipment, and 5-point site PPE.
  • Reliability: A punctual, professional approach to long-term shift work.
  • Right to Work: Valid right to work in the UK.
