A leading manufacturer of metal products is looking for a Design Engineer to join their team at their office based in the Dudley area. The ideal candidate will be a hard‑working, adaptable and personable Design Engineer with a strong background in 2D AutoCAD, with experience in the sheet metal industry. This is a fantastic opportunity with a leading company who are expanding rapidly, with a goal of doubling their turnover within the next decade. The Design department is currently operating on a straight days shift pattern, on a 40 hour work week, five days in the office, 07:30 - 16:00.
Role: Design Engineer
Location: Dudley, West Midlands
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with customers and Sales to clarify engineering requirements and specifications
- Prepare and release accurate drawings, specifications and production data to support manufacturing and delivery 'right first time'
- Review work orders and drawings to minimise errors and rework
- Use and maintain CAD/CAM systems and records to enable efficient order processing
- Support process development, continuous improvement and material optimisation
- Assist production teams with process updates, training and in-process quality checks
- Help identify and resolve design or specification issues in collaboration with production teams
- Contribute to cost control initiatives, value engineering and make‑or‑buy decisions
- Maintain design standards and support standardisation projects
- Stay informed on manufacturing capabilities, materials and emerging production techniques
- Undertake additional duties within the scope of the role as required
Skills & Experience:
- HND or degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- Strong communication and customer relationship skills
- Proven troubleshooting and problem‑solving ability
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D) and Radan (2D)
- Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to work
