A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Knowsley. This role sits within a fast-paced production environment where engineering plays a key role in ensuring efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement across site. Reporting into the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the smooth running of the factory by delivering both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring downtime is minimized and production targets are consistently met. This role would suit a time-served, apprentice-trained engineer with a true multi-skilled background (50/50 electrical and mechanical), looking to join a supportive and forward-thinking engineering team.

Sector: Factory Maintenance (Food Manufacturing)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdowns
  • Diagnose and fault‑find on both electrical and mechanical systems
  • Perform repairs, upgrades, and installations across site machinery
  • Conduct routine system and pre‑start checks to ensure safe operation
  • Work on a range of equipment including conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and steam systems
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives (5S)
  • Minimise downtime and ensure maximum machine efficiency
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update spares inventory
  • Work closely with production teams and liaise with management when required
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety and Hygiene standards
  • Supervise contractors and ensure permits and procedures are followed

Non‑Negotiable Requirements:

  • Time‑served/apprentice‑trained engineer
  • Proven multi‑skilled maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience in both reactive and planned maintenance
  • Electrical and mechanical fault‑finding ability

Requirements:

  • Engineering qualification (ONC or above preferred)
  • 17th or 18th Edition electrical qualification
  • PLC fault‑finding/diagnostic experience
  • Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Knowledge of steam boilers or similar plant equipment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience within the food manufacturing industry
  • Experience working within a high‑care or fast‑paced production environment
