An award-winning, employee-owned Consultancy is looking to strengthen its growing Structural Engineering team in Leeds with the appointment of a Senior Structural Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a business with a genuinely different feel to most consultancies, combining technically challenging engineering work with a strong environmental focus and a culture built around collaboration, flexibility and long-term development.

The Leeds team continues to expand its in-house structural design capability across a broad mix of projects within flood risk management, environmental engineering, infrastructure and the built environment. The role will give you the chance to work on schemes that have a real impact across climate resilience, flood alleviation and infrastructure improvement, while also offering exposure to more traditional building structures and civil engineering projects.

Work regularly includes:

  • Flood defence schemes
  • Pumping stations
  • Retaining structures
  • Coastal and river engineering works
  • Temporary works
  • Wider infrastructure projects delivered alongside multidisciplinary teams across the business

From a technical perspective, the role will involve leading structural design packages and overseeing the delivery of detailed engineering solutions across a variety of permanent and temporary works projects. You'll be involved in structural assessments, flood embankments, foundations, steelwork, masonry and reinforced concrete design, alongside wider infrastructure and environmental engineering works.

The team works closely with hydraulic modellers, hydrologists, civil engineers, environmental specialists and geotechnical teams internally, creating a genuinely collaborative and multidisciplinary environment where projects are approached holistically rather than in silos. A big part of the role will involve supporting the delivery of projects that improve resilience to climate change and flooding across the UK.

The Consultancy is heavily involved in flood and coastal risk management work, nature-based solutions and sustainable infrastructure projects that combine engineering with environmental enhancement and long-term resilience planning. This creates a really interesting technical environment for engineers wanting to work on projects that go beyond standard building structures work and have genuine long-term social and environmental value.

The successful individual will play an important role within the team technically, taking ownership of projects while also mentoring and supporting more junior engineers and technicians. There is scope for the role to develop further into broader project leadership and line management responsibilities over time, making it well suited to someone who enjoys both hands-on design work and helping develop others around them.

The Consultancy is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer with a strong background in UK Consultancy or design-and-build environments, ideally with experience across infrastructure, environmental or heavy civil engineering projects. Chartered status, or someone close to achieving Chartership through ICE or IStructE, would be highly beneficial. Strong working knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards is expected, alongside experience using software such as TEDDS, Robot, STRAP or other FE analysis packages. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit would be advantageous, as would familiarity working alongside organisations such as the Environment Agency, Network Rail or similar infrastructure-focused clients.

What really stands out about this business is its culture and long-term approach. As an independent, employee-owned Consultancy operating under a stewardship model, there is a genuine emphasis on giving employees a voice within the business while creating a supportive and collaborative environment. Sustainability and climate resilience sit at the heart of the organisation, with teams across engineering, environmental and water disciplines working together to help communities and infrastructure adapt to future challenges.

Flexible working is fully embedded, professional development is heavily invested in, and the business continues to build a strong reputation across environmental engineering, flood risk and infrastructure projects throughout the UK and internationally.

For an experienced Senior Structural Engineer looking to work on meaningful projects within a technically strong and people-focused Consultancy, this is a genuinely interesting opportunity in the Leeds market.
