A qualified electrician is required at HMP Gartree to support a busy maintenance team.
Responsibilities
- Complete SFG20-based PPM tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) and other structured maintenance tasks, incorporating reactive work to ensure statutory and mandatory compliance.
- Complete service sheets and paperwork for PPM and reactive electrical tasks, documenting work details, findings, and electrical test results.
- Carry out like-for-like replacements and other minor electrical work, conducting inspections and tests in accordance with BS7671.
- Assist the responsible person and authorized person when requested.
- Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively, contributing to a secure and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
- Diagnose and replace failed electrical components.
- Actively fault-find and problem-solve on electrical systems across the prison.
- Assist escorting duties and other responsibilities as required.
- Follow MOJ Security protocols, including tool management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works, or equivalent.
- BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition acceptable with upskilling).
- Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and Risk Assessments.
- Strong communication skills, basic IT skills, and excellent organisational, time-management and people skills.
- Experience with maintenance operations and working under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work at heights and independently, using initiative.
- Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems.
- Honesty, diligence, reliability, trustworthiness, great attention to detail and an excellent team player.
- Must pass MOJ Prison Clearance (valid for 5 years and transferable to similar category prisons). A passport or photo driving licence is required for clearance application.
Working Conditions & Compensation
- Pay Frequency: Weekly
- Working Days: Monday to Friday (overtime cover at weekends available)
- Working Hours: 39 hours per week
