A leading flexible packaging manufacturer based in the North West of England is looking to recruit an Ink Technician to join their team. You will be responsible for ensuring that high quality inks are made and maintained, and that your role is conducted in a safe and controlled manner in line with the required standards and operating procedures.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding customer requirements for colour specification and ensuring they are met to the highest possible standard.
  • Operating in line with site health and safety, environmental and quality standards including BRC, ISO & A2 environmental.
  • Making and preparing all inks for production right first time to known data standards and anilox strengths.
  • Identifying any ink that has been used and returned ready for subsequent runs.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe working environment, ensuring that all spills are logged and cleaned immediately.
  • Operating processes in line with lean manufacturing techniques including SMED and the 5S principles.
  • Maximising the use of press returns by ensuring that press returns are always used before virgin ink.
  • Managing activity via the IFS6 programme, ensuring there is enough ink to complete an order, minimising top up requirements to maximise production time.
  • Ensuring there is sufficient ink supply for up to 24 hours and that the 24 hour threshold is not breached.
  • Making full use of the eXact spectro, IFS6 and IQC, to reduce press downtime to a minimum.
  • Logging press returns back into the system for future ease of use.
  • Assisting the Printers on press should any minor adjustments be required, making any changes to the system recipe as needed.
  • Maintaining the distillation plant and optimising waste inks and solvent, ensuring waste generated is minimised as much as possible.
  • Assisting the Ink Room Manager with other duties as required, including offloading ink deliveries and supporting stock takes and re-ordering of ink supplies.

Experience:

  • Forklift Truck license essential/training provided.
  • X-rite equipment trained.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of working with Print Colours.
  • Good understanding of continuous improvement techniques, e.g. lean & 5S.
  • Exposure to quality, health, safety and environmental standards and practices within a production setting.
  • Colour matching experience.
