A well‑established food manufacturing company based in Redditch is seeking a Mechanical Bias Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time‑served engineer looking to work within a fast‑paced production environment, supporting the smooth operation of manufacturing equipment through proactive maintenance and rapid fault resolution.

The Role

  • Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving production machinery performance, minimising downtime, and ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across all production machinery and site equipment.
  • Respond quickly to mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, pneumatics, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to enhance machine reliability and production efficiency.
  • Assist with installations, upgrades, and modifications to production equipment.
  • Complete engineering documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth operational performance.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety and food hygiene standards.
  • Support electrical engineers when required as part of a multi‑skilled engineering team.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Time‑served Mechanical Engineer (Apprenticeship / NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and maintenance experience within manufacturing.
  • Previous experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, or automated production environments preferred.
  • Good understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, drives, and conveyor systems.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
