W Talent is proud to be partnering with a leading manufacturing business in Belper to recruit a Maintenance Engineer with a strong tooling and machining background. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering team supporting high-volume manufacturing operations. The role will focus heavily on tooling maintenance, repair, and modification, alongside broader mechanical maintenance responsibilities across production equipment and press machinery.

As a Maintenance Engineer with a tooling bias, you will play a key role in ensuring production equipment, press tools, jigs, and fixtures operate efficiently and reliably across the site. Working closely with Production, Tooling, and Process Engineering teams, you will carry out both reactive and preventative maintenance activities, helping to minimise downtime and support overall production performance and OEE targets. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong machining and tooling assembly experience within a metallic manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out reactive and preventative maintenance on press tools, jigs, fixtures, and associated production equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve tooling and mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Maintain, modify, repair, and assemble tooling components for manufacturing operations.
  • Support tooling improvements and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
  • Use workshop machinery including Manual lathes, Milling machines and Flat bed grinders.
  • Support tooling manufacture and modification work for forming, cutting, bending, and assembly processes.
  • Work on press tooling and clinch machinery used within high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications accurately.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure tooling performance and product quality standards are maintained.
  • Identify recurring engineering issues and implement long-term corrective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and tooling documentation in line with company procedures.
  • Support production uptime and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) targets.
Key Requirements
  • Apprenticeship-trained engineer or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification.
  • Proven experience within a tooling, toolroom, machining, or manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Strong mechanical and tooling background within a metallic manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with Press tools, Jigs & fixtures, Manual machining equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly and tooling maintenance.
  • Ability to create and understand machining programs manually.
  • Experience with cutting, bending, and forming processes.
  • Proactive approach to fault finding and continuous improvement.
