The King's School in Macclesfield is seeking to appoint a dedicated and high-caliber Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our Junior Division for the 2026/27 academic year. This is a unique opportunity to work specifically with our Year 6 cohort, supporting pupils during a vital transitional year in their educational journey.
The Role
- Working under the direction of the Vice-Principal of the Junior Division, the successful candidate will provide advanced pedagogical support.
- This role goes beyond standard classroom assistance, requiring the ability to lead small groups and occasionally manage whole classes to ensure continuity of learning.
- Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm (Term time only).
- Duration: Temporary for one year, starting September 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-level support for the teaching of Year 6 pupils, focusing on core subjects and transition preparation.
- Lead small group interventions and specialized learning activities independently.
- Cover classes during the short-term absence of teachers, maintaining the delivery of the planned curriculum.
- Assist in the assessment of pupil progress and the maintenance of accurate records.
- Support the pastoral care of Year 6 pupils, ensuring their wellbeing and confidence.
- Participate in school trips, assemblies, and the wider life of the Junior Division.
- Adhere strictly to all safeguarding and health and safety policies.
About You
- Holds an HLTA qualification or possesses equivalent significant experience in a primary setting.
- Has a proven track record of supporting Upper Key Stage 2 pupils, particularly in Year 6.
- Demonstrates the confidence and skill to lead a classroom and manage behaviour effectively.
- Possesses excellent literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
- Is a collaborative team player with a proactive 'can-do' attitude.
