An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Engineer to join a busy and growing engineering team based in Barking. This role would suit somebody with a strong background within plant hire, heavy plant, construction equipment, powered access, forklifts or mechanical engineering environments looking for a stable, long-term position with strong overtime opportunities and progression.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on a wide range of plant and hire equipment within a workshop environment.
Responsibilities- Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on plant and hire equipment
- Diagnosing faults across mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical systems
- Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
- Conducting inspections and pre-delivery inspections (PDIs)
- Attending to breakdown repairs and ensuring equipment is returned to service efficiently
- Preparing equipment ready for hire
- Completing all service paperwork and workshop documentation accurately
- Maintaining high workshop and health & safety standards
- Liaising with parts departments and workshop management teams regarding repairs and ongoing work

- Previous experience within plant hire, heavy plant or construction equipment industries
- Strong mechanical fault-finding ability
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Basic electrical diagnostic experience advantageous
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Strong attitude towards health & safety
- Full UK Driving Licence preferred
- Relevant engineering qualifications advantageous (NVQ, City & Guilds, Plant Maintenance etc.)
- £38,000 - £40,000 basic salary
