The Voith workshop in Croydon is involved in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of mechanical equipment from the Rail, Marine, Power, Oil and Gas industries as well as some smaller sectors. Voith Turbo Limited is based in Croydon and supports our customers in these diverse sectors for the UK and Ireland markets. As well as developing new build solutions with OEMs, Voith Turbo Limited offers full aftermarket support to our customers by way of spare parts supply as well as repair and overhaul services at our local workshop or at the customer location via our highly skilled workshop and field service workforce.

The workshop in Croydon is split into overhaul cells for each product type and the mechanical and electrical fitters who work in these cells carry out the full strip down, inspection, survey, assembly and test of units such as gearboxes, fluid couplings, rail transmissions and cooling systems, rail couplers and marine products.

Responsibilities:

  • Strip down, inspection, survey, assembly, and test of mechanical systems such as gearboxes, fluid couplings, pumps, couplers, transmissions, cooling units etc.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, identifying components and how the system functions to enable fault finding.
  • Working to precise specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to tolerances using measuring tools like calipers and micrometers.
  • Full understanding of correct assembly techniques, for example torque tightening methods, shrink fits etc.
  • Ability to complete technical documentation clearly and accurately as work progresses.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day basic maintenance tasks on the equipment within the cell.
  • To perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

As some of the product worked on is for regulated industries such as rail, full compliance to national drugs and alcohol testing programs is mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum four years mechanical fitting.
  • Mechanical aptitude as well as significant experience of working in an engineering environment is essential.
  • Preferably time-served apprentice trained, or other relevant qualification.
  • A working knowledge of safety systems such as Risk Assessments and COSHH Assessments will be advantageous.

Salary level and contract type will depend on level of experience.
