Duties of a HGV Technician

  • Conduct servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs in accordance with manufacturer and industry standards
  • Diagnose vehicle faults using advanced diagnostic equipment and implement effective repairs
  • Perform safety inspections, MOT preparations, and routine checks to ensure fleet compliance
  • Support training and mentorship of apprentices and junior technicians
  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and quality regulations
  • Assist in developing and implementing preventative maintenance programmes to optimise vehicle uptime

Requirements of a HGV Technician

  • Hold a Level 3 NVQ or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or possess substantial industry experience
  • Proven experience working on HGVs or completed an apprenticeship in heavy vehicle maintenance
  • Strong diagnostic skills, including experience with electrical systems and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a fast‑paced environment
  • Flexibility to cover various shifts (early, late, and rotating shifts)
