Our client, based in Houghton Le Spring, is recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join their team. The main function of the role will be to assist with the testing and validation of new plant equipment plus other ongoing projects and analysis.
This will involve:
- Undertaking quantitative and qualitative analyses of activated material used in industrial, defence and medical applications, utilising standard classical analytical methods.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Using a range of techniques, software, and equipment to carry out analyses, including: gravimetric analysis, titrimetric analysis, spectroscopy (UV, AA, ICP-OES), as well as physical testing methods (e.g., tensile breaking strengths).
- Assessing the composition and quality of:
- Raw materials (rayon, process chemicals)
- Intermediate products to ensure they progress through the production process in a timely manner.
- Finished goods
- Effluent (checking pH levels, TSS, COD)
- Interpreting data and meeting strict guidelines on documentation when recording data.
- Advising of test results and/or improvement to current methods/systems for analysis and recording.
- Advising different departments of test results and how they relate to/affect the product, quality standards and analysis records, as required.
- Ensuring that all test results are accurately recorded and filed appropriately for data analysis and/or other purposes as required.
- Supporting the activities of the various improvement teams in the organisation, e.g. Six Sigma.
- Being aware of and keeping up to date with health and safety issues.
Requirements:
- A systematic approach to tasks.
- Theoretical knowledge of analytical techniques (on the job knowledge would be a bonus).
- Good IT skills.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Degree or strong A Levels in Chemistry or a Science related qualification.
- Laboratory experience.
