Reed Scientific is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join a pioneering company developing the world's first biosecurity platform to combat critical pest threats affecting human health, food security, and the environment. As a Technician, you will be an integral part of their dynamic Development Team, focusing on the research and development of innovative self‑limiting technology in insects.

Day‑to‑day of the role:

  • Maintain multiple insect colonies to ensure timely availability for mass rearing evaluations.
  • Assist in experimental setups and data collection according to specified protocols to support mass production and release strategies.
  • Document activities and processes meticulously within laboratory books or other records.
  • Maintain laboratory tidiness and support the team's compliance with established procedures, regulations, and health and safety standards.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory stock solutions, insect diets, and equipment, including ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Assist with updating health and safety records, SOPs, COSHH, and risk assessments.
  • Communicate clearly with the rearing development scientist and team lead regarding experimental status.
  • Provide occasional weekend support as part of a rota within the R&D team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A-level qualification in biology.
  • Experience in a biological sciences laboratory is preferred, with insect rearing expertise being highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Creative problem‑solving skills and the ability to develop applied solutions.
  • Adaptable and flexible, able to thrive in an environment of change and ambiguity.
