We are seeking a proactive and customer‑focused Housing Solutions Officer to join a North East London local authority, playing a vital role in preventing and relieving homelessness across the borough. You will work directly with residents who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, building trusting and productive relationships that enable you to persuade, influence and support customers to make positive and realistic housing choices.
The role involves delivering a comprehensive housing advice service across both the private and public sectors, using a wide range of interventions to prevent homelessness wherever possible. You will assess and investigate homeless approaches and applications in accordance with the Council's statutory duties under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996, relevant case law, and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. This includes developing, reviewing and implementing Personalised Housing Plans, actively supporting customers to prevent or relieve homelessness through meaningful interventions.
The post holder will work closely with landlords, accommodation providers and partner agencies to sustain tenancies, negotiate extensions of occupation and secure suitable housing solutions. You will also contribute to reducing expenditure on temporary accommodation through informed and cost-effective decision‑making. Accurate recording of homelessness data is essential, ensuring high‑quality submissions for local analysis and national reporting.
