This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Ecologist to join a growing multi-disciplinary property consultancy where you will have the autonomy to build and lead an ecology department from the ground up. This established multi-disciplinary consultancy operates across property, planning, commercial, rural, and surveying services with a strong reputation across the Southeast. With continued growth and increasing demand for ecological services, the business is now looking to bring ecology in-house for the first time, creating a unique opportunity for the right person to establish and grow the department.

In this role, you will lead ecological surveys, provide advice on biodiversity net gain and environmental matters, produce reports and assessments, and support clients through a range of ecological initiatives. You will work closely with internal planning and rural teams while building long‑term client relationships and helping expand the company’s ecological offering.

The ideal candidate will have strong ecological survey experience, protected species licensing experience, and the confidence to operate in a client‑facing role. Candidates should be comfortable balancing office, site, and stakeholder responsibilities. The Role
  • Leading ecological surveys and site assessments across a variety of projects
  • Producing reports including preliminary ecological appraisals and EIA‑related work
  • Advising internal teams and clients on ecological and BNG matters
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Supporting the growth and development of the ecology department
  • Working across office, site, and hybrid locations throughout the Southeast
The Person
  • Experience within Ecology or Environmental consultancy
  • Bat Licence and at least one additional protected species licence
  • Strong report writing and client‑facing abilities
  • Knowledge of EIA and preliminary ecological assessments
  • BNG knowledge desirable
  • Positive, personable, and self‑motivated attitude
  • Commutable distance from Horley or willing to relocate
