We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate History Teacher to join our specialist SEN school supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated educator who is passionate about making history engaging and accessible for young people who may have experienced barriers to education.

The Role

  • You will deliver engaging and differentiated History lessons to students across KS3 and KS4 within a nurturing and supportive learning environment.
  • Many students may present with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, trauma‑related behaviours and interrupted educational experiences.
  • The successful candidate will be able to inspire curiosity, encourage critical thinking and build strong, positive relationships with students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated History lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Support students in developing historical knowledge, analytical thinking and written communication skills.
  • Create a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to behaviour management.
  • Support students to re‑engage positively with education and learning.
  • Monitor progress and contribute towards EHCP targets and student reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and external professionals.
  • Support students' emotional wellbeing alongside academic achievement.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching History at KS3 and KS4 level.
  • Experience working within SEN, SEMH or alternative provision settings desirable.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship‑building skills.
  • Patient, adaptable and resilient approach.
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their full potential.
