The Role: This Transport Planner opportunity is with a fast-paced retail operation based in Glasgow, supporting a busy transport function with a strong focus on service, planning accuracy and operational efficiency. The business is looking for a Transport Planner who can operate confidently in a high-volume environment, communicate effectively with drivers and internal teams, and keep things moving when priorities shift. You'll play a key role within the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain operation, ensuring deliveries are planned effectively and customer expectations are met. This is a role for someone organised, proactive and comfortable making decisions in a live operational environment.
Key responsibilities
- Planning and coordinating daily transport routes across the operation
- Supporting drivers with route changes, delivery issues and operational queries
- Monitoring vehicle utilisation and helping drive transport efficiency
- Working closely with warehousing and wider Logistics distribution and supply chain teams
- Managing delivery schedules and ensuring customer service levels are maintained
- Ensuring all planning activity is compliant with transport regulations and WTD requirements
- Updating systems accurately and producing operational reports where required
Key experience
- Previous experience as a Transport Planner within retail, distribution, logistics or a similar fast-paced environment
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Comfortable working under pressure and managing changing priorities
- Understanding of transport legislation, drivers' hours and route planning
- Experience working within a Logistics distribution and supply chain operation
- Strong systems knowledge, ideally with exposure to TMS or planning software
