We are currently recruiting for skilled FCAW (Flux Core) Welders to join a major defence project. This role is heavily focused on Flux Core (MAG) welding using ceramic tile backing, working to high specifications on critical components. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced FCAW welders to work on advanced engineering builds within a safety-critical environment. We are ideally searching for Welders who are SC Cleared already, but you must be born British for the level of clearance required for this contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform FCAW / MAG welding (primary process) using ceramic tile backing
  • Weld butts and fillets to a high standard on carbon steel
  • Ensure all welds meet visual inspection and NDE standards
  • Carry out self-verification of weld quality
  • Work from engineering drawings and welding procedures
  • Maintain correct welding parameters, sequencing, and technique
  • Adhere to all SHE requirements, including fume control and safe systems of work

Skills & Experience Required

  • Modern Apprenticeship / Trade Papers NVQ / SVQ 3 or equivalent (essential)
  • Strong, proven experience in FCAW / Flux Core welding
  • Experience using ceramic tiles/backing (highly desirable)
  • Ability to consistently produce welds that pass NDE inspection
  • Experience welding carbon steel (4-10mm thickness range)
  • Knowledge of MCAW consumables
  • Experience working in heavy manufacturing, shipbuilding, or construction environments
  • Good understanding of SHE and risk assessments

Desirable

  • Experience with additional processes (MIG, MMA, Sub Arc)
  • Experience welding aluminium (MIG)
  • Experience with automated or semi-automated welding equipment
