Are you currently designing for printed textiles or fabrics and enjoy seeing your designs come to life in production? Do you understand not only the creative side of textile design, but also the technical realities of how fabric designs translate into print? Would you like to work within a luxury interiors manufacturing business investing heavily in modern textile print technology? If so, this could be an exciting opportunity.

We are recruiting for a Fabric Design & Print Studio Specialist to join a specialist luxury interiors manufacturing business based in Leyland, Cumbria. This role sits at the intersection of luxury fabric design and technical print production and requires somebody who understands both the creative and practical side of printed textile manufacturing. The company produces high-end printed fabrics for the luxury interiors market where colour accuracy, repeat quality, detail, scale, and overall fabric finish are absolutely critical.

You will work closely with both the design studio and print production team to ensure designs move smoothly from concept through to final printed fabric. The business is also investing heavily into modern production technology, including the highly regarded Epson Monna Lisa digital textile printing platform. Within the textile print industry, the Monna Lisa platform is recognised globally for its exceptional print quality, colour accuracy, and luxury textile output. The company believes this may be one of the only installations of its kind within the UK, making this a rare opportunity to work within an advanced textile print environment.

This is a permanent role within a company known for excellent staff retention, long-serving employees, and a team culture where people care about quality and craftsmanship.

The Role

You will play an important role within the studio team, helping develop fabric designs whilst ensuring artwork is technically suitable for high-quality textile print production.

  • Creating and developing fabric designs for luxury printed textiles
  • Preparing artwork and production-ready print files for digital textile printing
  • Working with repeats, colourways, scale, layouts, pattern placement, and colour separations
  • Ensuring designs are technically suitable for fabric production, considering fabric behaviour, substrates, print limitations, and colour accuracy
  • Supporting colour matching, colour correction, strike-offs, sampling, and print trials
  • Reviewing samples and ensuring finished fabrics reflect approved design intent
  • Working closely with the fabric print team to resolve technical or production issues
  • Maintaining high standards of design quality, detail, proportion, and luxury finish
  • Supporting bespoke client projects, collection development, and adaptations of existing designs
  • Checking artwork, repeats, colour separations, and production specifications before release to print
  • Supporting the management of artwork libraries, design files, print references, and production records
  • Identifying and flagging potential design, repeat, colour, or print risks before production
  • Contributing to improvements in studio workflow, artwork preparation, and communication between studio and production
  • Working collaboratively with production, sales, design, and management teams

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for somebody who can bridge the gap between creative fabric design and technical fabric printing. You must be able to produce strong, visually compelling design work whilst also understanding how that work translates into fabric print production. This role needs you to understand not only the creative side of textile design, but also the technical realities of colour accuracy, repeats, fabric behaviour, print limitations, production requirements, and maintaining quality throughout the print process.

This is a studio-based role for somebody with fabric design experience, print knowledge, and the confidence to work closely with the production team to achieve exceptionally high-quality printed fabrics.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience within fabric design, textile design, or printed textile development
  • Strong understanding of how artwork translates into printed fabric production
  • Experience preparing artwork for digital textile print workflows
  • Good knowledge of repeats, scale, colourways, colour matching, and pattern layouts
  • Strong understanding of colour accuracy, print quality, and luxury finish
  • Understanding of fabric behaviour, substrates, print limitations, and production requirements
  • Experience working with strike-offs, colour approvals, print sampling, and production checks
  • Excellent attention to detail and visual accuracy
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with both creative and production teams
  • A calm, organised, and practical approach

Experience using design and textile software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, AVA CAD/CAM, or similar textile design systems would be highly beneficial. Any experience within luxury interiors, bespoke fabrics, premium textile manufacturing, or digital textile print production would also be a strong advantage.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing luxury manufacturing business during a significant period of investment and expansion. The team works hard, supports each other well, and takes enormous pride in the quality of the products they produce. For somebody passionate about textile design and excited by the technical side of luxury fabric printing, this is a rare opportunity to be part of something special.
