Corr Recruitment is looking for an experienced Hand Sewing Operative for our client in Chiswick, responsible for carrying out detailed hand stitching and finishing work on sofas and upholstered furniture. The role involves sewing fabric, leather, and upholstery materials by hand to ensure strong seams, neat finishing, and high-quality sofa production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hand stitching on sofas and upholstered furniture during the production process
  • Sew and secure fabric, leather, piping, and seams where machine sewing is not suitable
  • Attach and secure buttons, trims, and decorative details on sofas
  • Ensure all hand-sewn work meets company quality standards and specifications
  • Assist upholsterers with finishing work on sofa frames, cushions, and arms
  • Inspect finished pieces for quality, alignment, and durability
  • Maintain sewing tools such as needles, thread, scissors, and other hand tools
  • Keep the workspace clean and follow health and safety guidelines

Skills and Requirements

  • Experience in hand sewing, upholstery, tailoring, or textile work preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship
  • Ability to work with different sofa materials such as fabric, leather, foam coverings, and padding
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced sofa manufacturing environment
