Our consultancy client is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work in a secondment with their Water end client supporting South West Water based out of Exeter with hybrid working. Our client are experts in project controls and PMO harnessing world-class technology, digital, data, and AI capability, redefining how projects are delivered. They provide innovative project solutions, driven by a community of experienced, caring, and passionate professionals, all seeking to improve the way projects are delivered, with end clients across the UK.

They are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the Commercial Management of complex infrastructure and capital delivery programmes in Water. You will provide expert commercial and contractual advice across full project lifecycle with robust cost control, governance and risk management. This role combines hands-on quantity surveying delivery with strong stakeholder engagement, supporting both client outcomes and company continued growth in the project controls and commercial management space.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver end-to-end commercial and quantity surveying services across pre- and post-contract stages of major projects and programmes.
  • Prepare, review, and manage cost plans, estimates, budgets, forecasts, and final accounts.
  • Provide robust cost reporting and financial control, ensuring timely, accurate, and transparent reporting to client stakeholders.
  • Support procurement activities, including tender preparation, evaluation, contract award, and commercial negotiations.
  • Administer construction contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT), including change control, compensation events, and claims management.
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities, working closely with risk and planning disciplines.
  • Contribute to value management and cost optimisation initiatives to improve capital efficiency.
  • Act as a consultant embedded within client teams, providing professional advice and representing company with credibility and integrity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior commercial and quantity surveying professionals, promoting best practice and professional development.

Skills/experience/qualifications:

  • Significant professional experience as a Quantity Surveyor within infrastructure, construction, or major capital programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering pre- and post-contract commercial management services.
  • Strong working knowledge of cost management, change control, and contract administration.
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status (MRICS/FRICS or equivalent) or working towards chartership is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a consultancy or client-facing environment is advantageous.
  • Water experience highly desirable.
