We are seeking an experienced Road Freight Export Manager to oversee and manage the daily operations of our road freight export department. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating export shipments, managing trailer planning and capacity, and ensuring efficient and cost‑effective transport solutions between the UK and our European partners. This role requires strong operational knowledge of road freight exports, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage schedules and freight movements while maintaining high service levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Export Operations Management
    • Oversee the end‑to‑end process of road freight export shipments.
    • Coordinate with customers, warehouses, drivers, and partner carriers to ensure timely departures and deliveries.
    • Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve operational issues.
  • Trailer Planning & Capacity Management
    • Plan and allocate trailers efficiently based on shipment volumes and destination routes.
    • Optimise trailer utilisation to maximise efficiency and minimise empty mileage.
    • Schedule trailer departures and manage loading plans with warehouse teams.
  • Team Leadership
    • Supervise and support the export operations team.
    • Provide guidance on planning, routing, and problem solving.
    • Ensure operational staff follow company procedures and industry regulations.
  • Customer & Carrier Coordination
    • Maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and international partners.
    • Provide shipment updates and respond to operational queries.
    • Negotiate with subcontractors and transport partners when required.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Ensure export documentation is accurate and completed on time.
    • Maintain contact with in‑house customs department, transport regulations, and company policies.
    • Monitor transport documentation such as CMRs and export paperwork.
  • Performance & Cost Control
    • Control transport costs while maintaining service quality.
    • Identify opportunities to improve planning efficiency and reduce delays.
