A fantastic opportunity has become available for an Ecologist to join a progressive ecological consultancy based near Essex. This position offers the chance to work across a broad range of projects while delivering high-quality ecological services and contributing to innovative, sustainable solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of Landscape Architects, Arboriculturalists, and Ecologists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake ecological surveys, including habitat and protected species surveys, in line with industry standards.
  • Produce detailed ecological reports, such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs).
  • Provide professional ecological advice to clients, ensuring compliance with current legislation and planning policy.
  • Support the development and implementation of mitigation and biodiversity enhancement measures.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and within budget.
  • Keep up to date with ecological legislation, best practices, and industry developments.
  • Mentor and support junior team members as part of their professional development.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related subject.
  • Previous experience within ecological consultancy or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
  • Proven experience carrying out ecological surveys and preparing technical reports.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIEEM, would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.
