About the role
An inclusive and friendly specialist school is looking for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join them full‑time either immediately or in September. As an LSA you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and associated challenging behaviours. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist to gain experience supporting children to overcome communication barriers.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with a small class of eight students, liaising with the class teacher, therapists and support staff to help all students flourish.
- Play an instrumental role in developing the independence, social skills and communication of students, as well as their physical and creative development.
- Ensure all pupils are supported emotionally and help them navigate their own feelings and emotions.
- Encourage different ways to communicate and teach specialist communication methods such as Makaton, PECS and TEACHH.
Qualifications
- Graduate with a degree in Psychology, Criminology, English or Linguistics is beneficial.
- Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Educational Psychologist.
- A positive attitude, dedication and a passion for supporting others are essential.
