Part‑Time Quantity Surveyor (Contract) – Road Surfacing / Highways. Hays NI is pleased to offer an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a leading highways and infrastructure team on a contract basis, working through Hays. This role supports the delivery of road surfacing and highways maintenance schemes, primarily from regional depots with some flexibility for hybrid working.
Your responsibilities will include commercial support across a portfolio of surfacing projects, ensuring accurate cost estimation, preparing client applications, developing competitive quotations, managing change processes, and maintaining strong financial control. Projects typically range up to £10 million, requiring precise cost management and a proactive approach to contract administration. You will build and maintain effective working relationships with highways clients to support change management and issue resolution, work closely with operational and finance teams to ensure full project cost control, including forecasting, CVR reporting, WIP management, and budget oversight. Accurate monthly valuations, client applications, and commercial reports will be prepared. You will support estimating and bid teams by developing commercially sound solutions for future surfacing opportunities and contribute to a collaborative team environment with inclusive working practices.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Over 5 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within highways, surfacing, or civil engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying.
- Experience producing CVRs and managing project financials.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible part‑time workload.
