Software Developer - 6-month contract

Location: Edinburgh. Hybrid. Outside IR35. £480 per day.

Harvey Nash's public sector client is currently looking to recruit a Developer to join their team based in Edinburgh for an initial 6-month period.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Accelerating the transition from legacy on-prem registers to new cloud‑native solutions.
  • Collaboratively developing serverless micro‑services using AWS Lambda functions and TypeScript/JavaScript.

Essential Skills:

  • AWS including CDK, Serverless (Lambda), S3, API Gateway, CloudFormation.
  • TypeScript (or modern JavaScript).
  • Experience making high quality software with others.
  • Working with business stakeholders to understand context and deliver value.
  • Design and implementation of solutions using a service‑based and serverless architecture.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery models such as Scrum and/or Kanban frameworks.
  • Developing within GDS or Digital First (or similar) quality standards.
  • Cloud monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools and processes.
  • Formal XP engineering techniques, including Pair Programming and Test‑Driven Development.
  • Defining infrastructure‑as‑code.

Desirable Skills:

  • Human‑centred, research‑driven, inclusive design practices.
  • Testing tools and frameworks such as Cypress.
  • Use of UI pattern libraries to achieve consistent, tested and high‑quality interfaces.
