Base: Bardon WTS (with travel to other council locations when required)

Hours: 12 hour shifts, working 12hrs, 4 on 4 off system

An temporary opportunity within the Contracts and Haulage Team at Leicestershire County Council has become available. We are currently looking to recruit a specialist HGV Driver (Ro-Ro) to join the team. The role will be responsible for transporting waste materials from Leicestershire County Council’s Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS) to disposal locations, using hook loader heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). The successful candidate will be required to complete all uplifts and other jobs on any given day, and to do so in the most efficient and effective manner. The nature of the work will involve a 4 on 4 off shift pattern with the jobholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours, including bank holidays, weekends and out of hours working.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • HGV licence
  • Driver CPC

Duties

  • Conduct daily vehicle checks in line with policy and legislation, and sign the driver handbook
  • Report all defects daily if considered serviceable, liaising with the supervisor if unsure. Major defects to be reported immediately
  • Ensure tachographs are signed for and returned monthly (or driver books)
  • Wear uniform at all times and when needed wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to carry out duties in a safe manner in line with health and safety
  • Apply health and safety requirements to work tasks by following Safe Systems of work and Risk Assessments
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Full valid driving license including Business Insurance
