We are recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer for our reputable client on a permanent basis.

Location: Chippenham, Wiltshire

Salary: £35000 (DOE)

About our Client hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer:

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to support new and existing valve projects. This permanent opportunity will involve producing engineering drawings, Bills of Material and Installation, Operating and Maintenance manuals to agreed quality standards and timescales.

Key Responsibilities as a Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Provide 3D design concepts and planning drawings to meet sales briefs
  • Produce designs and drawings to BS8888 standards
  • Create Installation, Operating and Maintenance manuals to meet customer and production requirements
  • Modify designs and drawings as required to support continual improvement and DFM changes
  • Issue and control drawings in line with company procedures
  • Maintain filing systems and general drawing office housekeeping
  • Transfer legacy drawings into the updated CAD PDM system
  • Control parts identification and compile BOMs using the company supply chain management system
  • Check own work for accuracy and completeness
  • Support specification and testing of electrical items fitted to valves and third-party products
  • Understand ATEX implications on valve designs and drawings
  • Provide design support across manufacturing, including machine shop, assembly, purchasing, inspection, stores and dispatch
  • Assist the Technical Manager during R&D projects
  • Provide design support for Sales and Marketing when required
  • Maintain acceptable levels of departmental tidiness and organisation
  • Work in line with company Health and Safety requirements

Requirements for the Mechanical Design Engineer role:

  • Mechanical Design Engineering experience is essential
  • Knowledge of rotating mechanisms would be advantageous
  • Self‑motivated and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Competent with 3D CAD systems such as Autodesk Inventor or similar
  • Good IT awareness
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Able to manage own workload and meet targets and objectives
  • Willing to improve own performance wherever possible
  • Understanding of basic electrical concepts
